Key Selling Points

Real Hardwood is a natural product of nature, unlike painted resin.
All pieces are carved of true dense hardwoods such as Ebony (Sonokeling), African Blackwood (Zambia/East African Rosewood), Burmese Rosewood or Sandalwood (Sandalwood) — NOT light-weight plastic or dyed-wood pieces that are sold at this price point. These woods are so dense that they sink in water and that is a fast way of differentiating between real hardwood and fake hardwood.

African Blackwood: "The King of Woods"
It is called East African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) and is a nationally classified hongmu (red sandalwood-grade) species. It's heavy, rock hard and has a razor sharp grain pattern which darkens to a deep, shiny black over time—just like high quality musical instruments and luxury furniture.

The foldable Black & Gold Board doubles as storage when folded up.
The signature black and gold lacquered board folds flat and securely and becomes its own protective case. No loose board, no separate box to lose, simply open it up and you are ready to play.

Two Display Options
For daily use and travel, opt for the all-in-one black and gold folding board or the engraved gold script portable board for a more traditional, gift-worthy look.

Designed for gifting and collecting.
This is for real, not a toy-aisle chess set. It's designed as something you'd give to a parent, mentor or serious collector - something that's on a shelf as well as on a table.

Two Sizes for Two Use Cases
The 50# size is ideal for everyday play and compact storage, while the 60# size provides larger pieces and a higher board presence — perfect for display or for those who like to have a heavier player in hand.

FAQ

Q: What is the material of this chess set, is this real wood or painted/dyed?
A: These are solid, hardwoods, not resin or dyed softwoods – Ebony, African Blackwood, Sandalwood or Burmese Rosewood. One of the easiest ways to determine genuine hardwood is by its weight; these woods are dense enough to sink in water.

Q: The 50# size is not that much different from the 60# size.
A: The 50# size comes with 4.8 cm pieces and a smaller case, perfect for everyday use or on the go. The 60# set features larger pieces of 5.8″ and a larger case, making it more ideal for players who prefer a heavier, more substantial piece to have in hand or for display.

Q: Can the board be folded up for storage?
A: Yes. This black and gold board type is fold flat and fits into its own protective case, eliminating the need for a separate box.

Q: Yes, this is a great gift set.
A: Yes. It presents itself in a presentation finish and packaging that requires no extra wrapping and is specifically made for presentation to parents, mentors or collectors.

Q: Will the wood color change over time?
A: Yes, and this is what you would expect. In particular, African Blackwood will naturally oxidize from brownish to darker, glossier black, which is an indicator of an authentic and natural hardwood, not a defect.

Q: The set is to be cleaned and maintained according to the instructions that are given with the instrument.
A: Use a dry soft cloth to wipe down pieces. Do not expose to water or prolonged sunlight as this will help to soften the natural finish over time.
